Renewable Asia 2012 – focus on bridging the energy supply-demand gap

Renewable Asia 2012, an exhibition on renewable energy, kicked off today at the Palace Grounds in Bangalore, India. The four-day event is organised by Triune Exhibitors Pvt. Ltd., in association with Electrical Consultants’ Association of India (ELCA).
With a focus on meeting the urgent power needs of the state through renewable energy sources, the event is focusing on various sources of energy such as solar, wind, bio, hydel geo-thermal, tidal waves etc., in addition to cogeneration and electrical vehicles.
With over 150 exhibitors, the organisers are expecting more than 16,000 visitors and business enquiries worth Rs. 100 crore during the exhibition, which will go on till Feb 19.
While new technologies, products, applications and solutions for commercial, residential and industrial sectors are being displayed at the exhibition, the conference will dwell on how to fill the energy supply-demand gap, while keeping the concerns of the environment.
From microsystems to turbo machineries, power controls to power systems, energy savers, PV modules to PV interconnect ribbons, adhesive tapes, solar lamps, solar inverters, solar laptop chargers etc., are on display.
The major highlight of the event is to focus on energy efficiency in different sectors. The exhibition will highlight developments in the realm of renewable energy as to make it accessible to end-users.
According to a report, there is considerable loss of energy due to insufficient systems and practices estimated to be over 30 percent in India.
Speaking at the event, N.S. Prasanna Kumar, managing director, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Ltd. (KREDL) said, “The main of Renewable Asia 2012 is to create an awareness on renewable energy sources and the products to the common man. The focus is to educate the end-user with regard to off-grid solar applications, which saves energy and are user-friendly.”
“Today, solar charging systems are available at just Rs. 3 to 4,000. The cost has drastically reduced.  There had been technological advancements in solar water heating systems, which are free from defects and less expensive,” he added. “These products should reach the last village in the state,” Kumar said.
In all, the mood among the exhibitors was upbeat. While 2011-12 was not a promising year for the renewable energy sector, especially for the solar industry, this year (2012-13), the industry is looking forward to to a decent business and growth.
